WORKSHOP 2 – Intermediate Mechanics / Physicality

Course lenght: 12 weeks

Workshop designed to take you to master the complexity and flexibility of the Torso, one of the most important parts of your character responsible of providing Weight through successive breaking of joints/hierarchies. Afterwards, we move to the upper limbs to dive in the IK – FK world in order to express physicality and interact with objects within the complex environment.

Module 2

What is this Workshop all about?

This module is designed to break the technical barrier and start your journey as an artist in the subject.  Here is where you will learn how to master basic aspects such as Weight, Balance, Arcs, Lines of Action, Contraposture and breaking of hierarchies which will give the illusion of life to your character.

Each week you will receive video tutorials on the respective subject which provide all the theory and techniques necessary for the assignment.  During the live session (2 per week), you will reunite with your teacher and fellow classmates from different parts of the world for revisions and feedback on the assignments, all in real time.  These Live Sessions are recorded and downloadable for you to keep.  Having this recorded sessions are a great opportunity for you to learn from other´s mistakes and/or situations, since every student is working with a different character/theme and will come handy for any future similar situation.  These said, not only do you learn from your work, but from other student´s work.  During the other days of the week, when there is no Live Session, all students can send their progress through our CAMPUS, so that their teacher can provide the appropriate feedback and waste no time in working on their shot.  Yes, you are never left alone.

What will the student learn:

  • Proper use of Video Reference
  • Dissecting of key poses in order to work properly during the Blocking stage
  • Contraposture and Line of Action in a Pose
  • Appeal through Exaggeration and Contrast
  • Weight through Successive breaking of hierarchies
  • Complexity and Flexibility of the Torso through "S", "C", "Inverted S" and "Inverted C" Lines of Action
  • Master IK - FK blend/match in complex situations
  • Proper use of Clavicles and Shoulders as a means of expression
  • Dexterity in fingers
  • Full body mechanics

Is there a Certificate at the end of the workshop?

  • Yes, we offer a Certificate of Completion of the Module. There is no grading system, but it is up to the teacher to provide it based on the student's participation, and continuous improvement of skills from instruction.
