WORKSHOP 2 – Intermediate Mechanics / Physicality

Course lenght: 12 weeks

Workshop designed to take you to master the complexity and flexibility of the Torso, one of the most important parts of your character responsible of providing Weight through successive breaking of joints/hierarchies. Afterwards, we move to the upper limbs to dive in the IK – FK world in order to express physicality and interact with objects within the complex environment.

Module 2

What is this Workshop all about?

This module is designed to break the technical barrier and start your journey as an artist in the subject.  Here is where you will learn how to master basic aspects such as Weight, Balance, Arcs, Lines of Action, Contraposture and breaking of hierarchies which will give the illusion of life to your character.

How does it work?

Animation Workshop How it works

Each week, the student will receive pre-recorded video tutorials. During the week, we provide 2 live sessions where you will meet with your teacher and fellow students from all around the world and you will have live revisions/feedback from the assignments. These sessions are recorded and available for download so you can keep them and watch them at any time. You will learn from fellow classmates in addition to your own feedback from the teacher.

All other days of the week when there are no live sessions,  all students are able to send their progress to our campus to receive offline feedback.  With this said, no student is left behind until the next live session. We are always available to provide you with the necessary feedback so that your work is never stalled.

What will the student learn: 

  • Proper use of Video Reference
  • Dissecting of key poses in order to work properly during the Blocking stage
  • Contraposture and Line of Action in a Pose
  • Appeal through Exaggeration and Contrast
  • Weight through Successive breaking of hierarchies
  • Complexity and Flexibility of the Torso through "S", "C", "Inverted S" and "Inverted C" Lines of Action
  • Master IK - FK blend/match in complex situations
  • Proper use of Clavicles and Shoulders as a means of expression
  • Dexterity in fingers
  • Full body mechanics

Is there a Certificate at the end of the workshop?

  • Yes, we offer a Certificate of Completion of the Module. There is no grading system, but it is up to the teacher to provide it based on the student's participation, and continuous improvement of skills from instruction.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Autodesk Maya 2016 +
  • Basic Animation Principles and Locomotion knowledge
  • Be 18 years old or older
  • Basic computer knowledge and basic skills in 3d animation software.
  • Good understanding of English language
  • 4GB RAM (8GB recommended)
  • 64-bit Intel or AMD multi-core processor
  • Webcam (for best communication with instructor, but not a must)
  • Headphones and/or headset-mounted microphone (for best communication with instructor, but not a must)
  • Three button mouse (required for work within Maya)
  • Broadband Internet: 5Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload
